Presidential adviser Daniel Bwala says there’s nothing stopping Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, from running for any political seat in Nigeria—including Lagos governor—or even challenging his father in a presidential race.
Speaking on The Clarity Zone podcast, Bwala dismissed claims that Seyi’s political influence stems only from family ties. He described the younger Tinubu as a “bridge-builder among youths,” highlighting his track record of creating opportunities across party lines.
“If Seyi Tinubu’s father is the president, what stops him from running for Lagos governor? Seyi Tinubu can even challenge his father in the next election,” Bwala said.
Bwala praised Seyi’s humility despite his privileged background, noting that he maintains friendships with critics of the current administration and avoids social-media spats. “Unlike many children of past leaders, he has stayed clear of scandals and public controversies,” Bwala added.
The aide also revealed that he has publicly criticised the Tinubu administration while maintaining a cordial relationship with Seyi, calling it proof of the younger Tinubu’s ability to separate politics from personal ties.
Bwala urged Nigerians to judge Seyi by personal interaction, not by his father’s reputation. “Too many people inherit other people’s problems without any personal encounter,” he said.
