Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has stirred controversy after claiming that single mothers alone cannot raise boys into what he described as “proper men” without the influence of a strong male figure.
Speaking during an interview on Okay 101.7 FM in Accra, Ghana, the movie star emphasized the critical role men play in shaping the character of boys.
“Women are naturally gifted at nurturing and loving, but raising a man requires a different kind of discipline that only a male figure can provide,” Iyke said.
He further argued that a single mother, no matter how strong, cannot fully raise a boy into manhood without male involvement.
“You need a male influence—whether it’s a father, brother, or trusted male figure—to be part of the process,” he added.
According to Iyke, boys without male role models risk growing into “weak men” who may unconsciously adopt the negative traits of the absent men in their mothers’ lives.
The actor stressed that resilience, discipline, and balance are best instilled when a positive male role model is present in a boy’s upbringing—igniting a heated debate about parenting, gender roles, and societal expectations.
