United Capital Plc has officially confirmed the tragic loss of six of its employees in the fire that engulfed Afriland Towers, a six-storey commercial complex in Lagos, on September 16, 2025.
The fire, which reportedly started in the inverter room located in the basement, also claimed the lives of four personnel from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). The incident sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s corporate sector, as the building houses several key institutions.
In an official statement released on Monday, United Capital, a leading pan-African financial and investment services group, described the deaths as “an immeasurable loss” and extended condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased.
“Our departed colleagues were an integral part of our company and our family. Their painful loss leaves an immeasurable void,” the company said.
“We extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to their families, friends, and loved ones. They remain in our thoughts and prayers, and we are committed to providing all necessary support during this difficult time.”
United Capital also announced plans to host a memorial service in honor of the deceased staff members.
