A Nigerian woman has shared her heartbreaking story on TikTok, revealing how her marriage to a white man ended in abuse and divorce just months after she relocated to the United Kingdom to be with him.
According to her narration, she believed she had found her soulmate and moved overseas to begin a new life. However, within two months of arriving in the UK, her husband allegedly turned violent. She recounted being punched multiple times in the face, leaving her terrified that she might not survive.
The 34-year-old divorcee further revealed that the abuse was not only physical but also emotional and psychological. She claimed her ex-husband frequently insulted her, calling her names such as “Nigerian scammer,” “fat,” and “dumb.” Despite her efforts to save the marriage, including apologizing when she was not at fault, she said her sacrifices were in vain.
“He met all my family, but I never met his. He told me my hands looked like a monkey’s, said I was too dark, and constantly compared me to his children, calling me dumb and brainless,” she narrated.
The woman also shared that during her grieving period following her father’s death, her ex-husband allegedly slapped her again. That was the breaking point. She moved out, and within two weeks, he filed for divorce.
Despite the pain, she said walking away was the best decision she ever made.
“I lost myself, but now I’m rebuilding. I am happier and stronger today. Abuse of any kind—physical, emotional, or psychological—is non-negotiable for me. At 34, divorced with no kids, I will start afresh and build again.”
Her story has sparked mixed reactions online. While many sympathized with her ordeal, others urged caution, noting that only one side of the story had been shared.
One commenter wrote:
“It’s not about race—it’s pure evil. I’m glad you left and are safe. Healing will take time, but love yourself first.”
Another added:
“A man who truly loves cannot abuse the person he calls his partner. Abuse is never love.”
Meanwhile, family and marriage counselor, Coach Grace Ademola-Oke, advised individuals coming out of broken marriages to rebuild their self-worth with intentionality.
“Failure does not define you. Heartbreak is just a phase that will pass. The key is to focus on the bright future ahead, embrace counseling, achieve financial independence, and trust God to bring healthier opportunities,” she said.
The lady’s brave story has since gone viral, serving as both a warning about abusive relationships and a message of hope for those struggling to rebuild after heartbreak.
