Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has reaffirmed the nation’s steadfast dedication to promoting democracy across the African continent. Speaking during an official visit from Malawi’s Foreign Minister, Nancy Tembo, Odumegwu-Ojukwu emphasized that democratic governance remains a cornerstone of President Bola Tinubu’s foreign policy agenda.
She announced Nigeria’s support for Malawi’s upcoming general elections, scheduled for September 2025, and pledged technical assistance to aid the electoral process. This support, she noted, will include the deployment of skilled professionals through Nigeria’s Technical Aids Corps to help bridge critical developmental gaps and reinforce institutional capacity.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu also commended Malawi’s decision to establish a resident embassy in Abuja, describing it as a step toward revitalizing bilateral relations. She expressed confidence that the move would reactivate dormant agreements and deepen collaboration in strategic areas such as education, diplomacy, trade, and governance.
“Nigeria stands ready to support democratic processes and sustainable development initiatives throughout Africa,” she stated, underscoring the country’s leadership role in regional stability and cooperation.
The meeting is seen as a significant stride in Nigeria’s diplomatic efforts to strengthen partnerships across the continent while championing democratic values and mutual development.
