Award-winning entertainer and activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has made it clear that he has no interest in joining politics, despite his vocal stance on national issues and widespread admiration among Nigerian youths.
In a recent interview, the rapper and actor dismissed any speculation about a potential political future, stating emphatically:
“Politics, ke? No, it’s a big no. What’s my business with politics? I can never become a politician.”
Falz explained that his personality and principles are incompatible with the nature of politics, which, in his view, often demands traits he does not possess—particularly negative ones.
“I don’t think I’d ever be able to be one because being a politician requires some traits that I just don’t have. Even some so-called ‘normal’ traits like being extremely patient or always being ‘on’—that’s not me.”
While many see him as a voice for the people due to his strong advocacy on social issues, Falz emphasized that his activism is driven purely by compassion, not a desire for political office.
Reflecting on his motivation, he recalled his comments from 2023:
“Compassion—I just care. I can’t afford to witness everything happening around me and stay silent or inactive. It’s simply how I’m built. Nobody is pressuring me; it comes naturally.”
A trained lawyer and son of renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), Falz has consistently leveraged his platform to speak out against police brutality, government inefficiency, and systemic injustice. However, he maintains that activism and politics are not necessarily intertwined.
“You can stand for truth and justice without being a politician,” he added.
Falz’s refusal to enter the political arena has further solidified his identity as a socially conscious artist who prefers to influence change from outside the system.
