The Nigerian film industry is in mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor Tom Njemanze, who passed away after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer.
The sad news was confirmed by renowned movie producer Stanley Ajemba Chibueze, popularly known as Stanley Ontop, in a statement shared on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
“It’s another sad period as we just received news from Tom Njemanze’s family that he has succumbed to his ailment and passed on yesterday. May his soul rest in peace. Nollywood loses another legend,” Stanley Ontop wrote, alongside a photo of the ailing actor in hospital.
Tom Njemanze’s Health Struggles and Public Appeal
Before his passing, Tom Njemanze had publicly appealed for help as his health deteriorated. Stanley Ontop had shared emotional videos showing the actor bedridden, connected to oxygen support and intravenous drips, revealing the severity of his condition.
He also published the actor’s bank details, urging Nigerians and fans to assist financially in covering his medical expenses.
Njemanze, celebrated for his roles in classics like Died Wretched, Issakaba, Magic Cap, Osuofia in London, and Twin Brothers, was widely respected for his acting talent and contributions to Nollywood’s golden era.
