American music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has pleaded with a U.S. judge for mercy as he awaits sentencing on two prostitution-related convictions.
The rapper and business icon, who was cleared in July of more serious charges including sex trafficking and racketeering, will return to court on Friday, October 3, 2025, for his formal sentencing.
In a heartfelt letter to Judge Arun Subramanian, Combs described his 13 months in Brooklyn federal jail as a deeply humbling experience that has transformed him. He detailed the harsh conditions—sharing cramped cells with 25 other inmates, no windows, and a lack of clean drinking water—and admitted there were times he nearly gave up on life.
Acknowledging his past mistakes, Combs offered an apology for his actions, including physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura. During the trial, Ventura and another woman testified about experiencing fear, control, and abuse in their relationships with the hip-hop star, testimonies prosecutors used to highlight his pattern of misconduct.
Prosecutors have requested a minimum of 11 years in prison, citing the gravity of the offenses and Combs’ long-standing power and influence. However, his defense team is pushing for leniency, arguing that the 13 months he has already spent behind bars should significantly count toward his sentence.
Combs also asked the court to consider his family responsibilities, noting that he is the primary caregiver for his seven children and his elderly mother, who is recovering from brain surgery.
Before sentencing, Combs is expected to address the court directly, while his legal team will present a 15-minute video to support his plea for mercy.
The judge’s ruling will ultimately determine how much longer the 54-year-old music mogul spends in prison for two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
