Nigerian music icon David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has once again taken the spotlight—this time not just for his electrifying performance, but for a heated moment that occurred during an event in Umuawa Alaocha, Umuahia, Abia State, on Friday, June 27, 2025.
The award-winning singer was among several high-profile artists invited to celebrate the launch of two new radio stations by renowned media entrepreneur and philanthropist Mayor Lucky Igbokwe, famously known as Don Lulu.
The star-studded party also featured performances and appearances by Cubana Chief Priest, Timaya, Kcee, Bright Chimezie, Peruzzi, Zlatan, Zoro, and Jeriq, turning the event into a major entertainment highlight in the South East.
Davido Confronts Fan for Bringing Baby to the Concert
While Davido thrilled the crowd with back-to-back hits, a controversial moment interrupted the celebration. During his performance, the singer suddenly paused after spotting a baby in the front row of the crowd—a sight that clearly upset him.
In a video that has since gone viral, Davido can be heard sharply rebuking the fan:
“Why would you bring a baby here? Are you crazy? Take your baby away from here—you are a wicked person,” he said, visibly angry.
The incident triggered a wave of reactions online, with many commending Davido for prioritising the child’s safety in what was a loud, overcrowded environment.
Mixed Reactions Trail the Viral Video
Social media users were quick to weigh in. While some accused the fan of using the baby as a strategy to attract sympathy and possibly receive money from the singer, others questioned Davido’s blunt language—even though many agreed his concern was valid.
Here are some of the trending comments:
- @vivi_world9: “He’s such a good dad… once he saw the baby, the song no sweet am again.”
- @abebi_omotanwa: “Why would you bring a baby to a concert? If anything happened, people would be shouting Davido’s name.”
- @iam_fabulouspixzy: “They say artists go on stage drunk or high… but he clearly was alert enough to notice that child.”
- @braimohpreshy: “That place was way too crowded for a baby. People need to be more responsible.”
- @iamdejavoo_: “In their mind, they thought Davido would dash the baby money. This is a new begging strategy.”
Davido’s Tweet on Kenya Sparks Another Controversy
Just a day before the Abia concert, Davido was also in the news for his reaction to the ongoing anti-tax protests in Kenya. On Wednesday, June 26, the singer posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) that read:
“Peace and love to Kenya.”
Though well-intentioned, the tweet received backlash from some Nigerian users, who criticized the singer for showing solidarity with Kenya while allegedly staying silent on pressing domestic issues.
From viral concerts to international controversies, Davido continues to dominate conversations both on and off the stage. Whether it’s speaking up about child safety or engaging in cross-border solidarity, the global Afrobeats star remains one of the most talked-about figures in African entertainment.
