President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to Nigerian youths, describing them as “the future and the greatest assets of this blessed country.”
In his national broadcast to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the President assured young Nigerians that his government is working tirelessly to make life better and expand opportunities for growth.
Tinubu urged youths to “dream big, innovate, and conquer more territories in science, technology, sports, arts, and the creative sector,” while pledging continuous support, especially in funding and empowerment. He then unveiled three key loan opportunities already in place for Nigerian youths.
- NELFUND Student Loan
The President explained that the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) was established to ease financial burdens on students. So far, 510,000 students across 228 higher institutions nationwide have benefited from the scheme, with ₦99.5 billion disbursed as loans and an additional ₦44.7 billion in upkeep allowances.
- Credicorp Loan
Tinubu highlighted the Credicorp initiative, through which ₦30 billion in affordable loans has been distributed to 153,000 Nigerians.
This scheme provides financing for vehicles, solar energy solutions, digital services, home upgrades, and more—helping citizens improve their quality of life while stimulating the economy.
- YouthCred Loan
The President also confirmed the official rollout of YouthCred, a consumer credit scheme he first promised on June 12, 2025.
Currently, tens of thousands of NYSC members are benefiting from this loan package, designed to support resettlement and empower young Nigerians as they transition into post-service life.
Tinubu’s announcement comes amid widespread debate over his economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of Nigeria’s currency. Despite criticisms, the President insists these reforms are paving the way for long-term stability and prosperity.
He concluded by encouraging youths to embrace the loan opportunities and position themselves as active players in nation-building, adding that Nigeria’s future lies in their creativity, resilience, and vision.
