Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has opened up about her decision to stop attending church services, citing inappropriate behavior from several pastors as the main reason behind her choice.
In a candid revelation, Martins explained that although she is a committed Christian and was once actively involved in church activities, her repeated experiences with pastors making unwanted advances forced her to reconsider how she practices her faith.
“I’m not an atheist. I’m a Christian, and I used to be very active in church,” she said. “But over time, I realised that attending church doesn’t automatically make you God’s favourite. It’s how you live and what you do when no one is watching that truly matters.”
Martins noted that the pattern of inappropriate conduct by church leaders was consistent across multiple congregations she joined, ultimately leading her to step away from traditional church settings altogether.
Instead, she chose to build a personal relationship with God, focusing on private worship, spiritual discipline, and charity work—which she says have strengthened her faith and brought her divine breakthroughs.
“In every church I joined, the pastors would eventually make advances toward me. It became exhausting and disheartening,” she shared. “So I made a vow to stay faithful to God by worshipping Him in a way that brings peace to my soul. Through charity and personal devotion, I’ve seen my prayers answered time and again.”
Her story echoes broader conversations around misconduct within religious institutions and the importance of personal integrity in spiritual journeys.
Sarah Martins continues to use her platform to advocate for authentic faith and moral accountability, emphasizing that spirituality goes beyond the four walls of a church.
