Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Sam Adeyemi, has alleged that powerful individuals at the highest levels of government are responsible for the persistent killings of Christians across Nigeria.
Adeyemi made the comments on Thursday during a press conference held in Lagos to commemorate the church’s 30th anniversary.
Describing debates over terminology as insensitive, the cleric said the focus should be on addressing the violence rather than arguing about labels.
According to him, Nigeria’s security crisis is deeply rooted in internal power dynamics and cannot be resolved through external military intervention—even from the United States.
“It is open knowledge that some of the people supporting the killing of Christians are powerful,” he said. “Some of them are at the highest levels of government, and some are extremely wealthy.
“So, this is not something America can simply drop bombs on and make disappear. At the end of the day, the U.S. will leave, and we will still have to sit down and have a real conversation.”
Adeyemi’s comments come in the wake of remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who earlier this month alleged that radical Islamists were killing Christians in “very large numbers.” Trump warned that the United States could intervene militarily if Nigeria failed to end the attacks, describing any potential strike as “fast, vicious, and sweet.”
His comments sparked global concerns, prompting renewed debate on Nigeria’s security challenges and the alleged targeting of Christian communities.
