Ogechi Kanu, wife of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed strong displeasure after learning about her husband’s transfer to Sokoto Prison through social media rather than directly from his legal team.
Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment on Thursday by the Federal High Court in Abuja after Justice James Omotosho found him guilty on all seven counts of terrorism and related offences. In his ruling, Justice Omotosho ordered that Kanu be held in a “protected custodial centre,” stating that the Kuje Correctional Centre was unsuitable due to past jailbreaks and heightened security concerns.
On Friday, Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, revealed that the IPOB leader had been moved to Sokoto — a development he described as troubling.
Reacting via 𝕏, Ogechi criticised those who visited her husband yet failed to update her, choosing instead to post the news online. She accused the legal team of unprofessional conduct and warned them to act responsibly.
She wrote:
“Information reaching me about 3 hours ago is that my husband has arrived Sokoto prison. Those who went to see him today did not give me any update on his transfer. Instead, they ran to social media to broadcast it.
“If you all do not sit up and behave in a civilised and professional manner, I will stress you with my ‘stress,’ and I promise you, you will be stressed.
“Enough of your theatrics! Be warned!”
