While Governor Adeleke was trending for his dance moves in Miami, back home in Nigeria, a man was arraigned in Ibadan for allegedly threatening his life.
Rasaq Gafar, a 32-year-old man, appeared before the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, facing charges related to a social media post in which he allegedly threatened to kill the governor and incited public unrest.
According to Prosecutor Matthew Ojei, the alleged offences took place on July 12, with Gafar’s online messages deemed a threat to public peace and in violation of Sections 249(D) and 323 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Gafar’s counsel, Marvelous Ojeleye, pleaded for bail on liberal terms. In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi granted bail in the sum of ₦2.5 million, with two sureties required. One must own a landed property, while the other must be a blood relative of the defendant.
