Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, an Anambra-based cleric, has declared his ambition to contest Nigeria’s presidency in 2027, stating that the country needs young, digital-minded leaders rather than “old cargoes.”
Odumeje made the declaration during a Sunday sermon, a video of which has since gone viral on social media. However, he did not disclose the political party under which he plans to run.
He said, “Both past and present leaders have failed to move Nigeria forward due to their age and lack of vision. The country needs a vibrant, resilient, and forward-thinking leader like me to usher in real progress.
“We need a young leader in this country, and I believe it’s time for me to step forward. We need a young, digital-minded president—not old cargoes. Are you hearing me? I think I will come out. I will come out for president.”
Addressing his congregation, Odumeje asked if they were prepared for his presidential ambition, promising to introduce modern development and a digitally driven way of life.
“Are you ready for me? Odumeje for president? Are you ready? Because I know what you need. I know what you want. I want to construct a major road called Citadel for you. I want to give you a modern life, a digital life,” he said.
While his presidential ambition has excited his followers, it has also sparked widespread debate among social media users.
As Nigerians prepare for the next election cycle, Odumeje’s unexpected political ambition adds a dramatic twist to the nation’s already vibrant political landscape.
