Fans Blast Poor Security as Davido’s Enugu Concert Descends Into Chaos

Davido’s Enugu Concert Descends

What was meant to be a thrilling night of Afrobeats turned into chaos as fans of Nigerian superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, expressed outrage over the poor organisation and security lapses at his concert in Enugu State.

Davido had earlier announced the Nigerian leg of his “5ive Tour,” with stops in Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Enugu, Ibadan, and Lagos.
The tour kicked off in Akwa Ibom on October 26, continued in Adamawa on October 29, and reached its third stop in Enugu on November 1, before heading to Ibadan on November 9 and Lagos on December 25.

While the earlier shows were reportedly smooth, the Enugu concert was marred by overcrowding, harassment, theft, and a total breakdown of security.

According to eyewitnesses, the event — held at Michael Okpara Square — drew an estimated 40,000 attendees, almost double the venue’s 20,000 capacity.
This resulted in stampedes, chaotic entry scenes, and widespread safety concerns.

Fans Share Disturbing Experiences

Several attendees took to social media to share their traumatic experiences, describing the concert as “a disaster.”

@adis_beautification wrote:

“None of the security personnel were wearing tags. People without tickets broke through the gate. Touts entered, and they were using razor blades to tear people’s bags. The security team did a terrible job. My phone was stolen, and many girls were robbed.”

@hairz_by_steph recounted her ordeal:

“They were pressing girls’ breasts and buttocks. I lost my nails in the crowd. Davido came on stage around 3 a.m., and people without tags kept entering. A guy was moving around me trying to steal. My friend was crying — her phone was gone. The crowd was unbearable.”

@mmachukwu added:

“The entrance was chaotic. Security used tasers and long canes to flog people. They were literally shocking people with tasers. It was terrifying.”

@mirabel_merra also wrote:

“When security got tired, they abandoned the gate. People were pushing so hard that my sister almost fell. The gates were forced down — it was a complete stampede.”

@reallifestories lamented:

“My wig, shoe, and phone were all stolen. Someone eventually helped me, gave me slippers and clothes, and told me to go home. It was traumatic.”

Social commentator @Gidi_Traffic criticised the organisers, writing:

“It’s 2025 — there’s no excuse. Event organisers must prioritise the safety and well-being of women at large gatherings.”

Calls for Better Event Safety

The incident has sparked fresh debate about event management standards in Nigeria, with fans and activists calling for stricter regulations, better crowd control, and gender-sensitive security measures at major concerts.

As of press time, neither Davido’s management nor the event organisers had issued an official statement regarding the incident.
